L`esperto per il Lago d`Iseo

Marone

The village Marone is located between Sale Marasino and Pisogne and has approx. 3’200 inhabitants. The commune is situated at the foot of the Monte Caprello, which is home to several thousand olive trees. In the whole area olive trees are cultivated; therefore Marone calls itself proudly “Citta dell`Olio”.

Marone is situated in a valley which opens up towards the lake and behind the commune the terrain ascends steeply towards mountains up to 2000 m elevation. Marone is a lovely holiday village and the center is very inviting with its nice promenade, from where you can see the Monte Isola or the steep rock slope close to Castro on the opposite shore side, the historic church San Martino Vescovo, narrow alleyways and many Cafes in the area close to the lake.

There are many restaurants in Marone, which we can recommend, but our favourite one is the Ristorante Camplani, a little bit above Marone, in the district “Pregasso”. The view from there is breathtaking and you can sit on the terrace in the middle of olive trees and enjoy the local Lombardy and Italian cuisine with rice, pasta, meat and fish from the Lake Iseo. They offer a big variety of local wines, e.g. the assertion from the vineyard Valerio Zenato. The restaurant is located in the Via San Pietro 19. Tel: +39 030 987239 Open every day for Lunch and Dinner, except Wednesday evening.

Situated above Marone, there is the mountain village “Zone”, famous for its “Piramedi di Zone”. From the parking Cislano you pass the church San Giorgo to reach a circular walk of approx. 90 minutes, on which you can admire the up to 30 m high nature sensations. The pinnacles are the result of a rare erosion phenomenon in partly cemented clay-gravel deposits, including big rocks of petrified sediments. Rainwater rapidly washed away the clay matrix of the deposits from the mountain slopes thus isolating little by little the rocks which are left to protect the material below like umbrellas. We absolutely recommend visiting this nature masterpiece! Along the way there are also benche, so you also can rest and enjoy the gorgeous view of Lake Iseo.
